What's an avid catskiier to do in these seemingly endless summer months? Go white water rafting and work out some different muscle groups is what. Yesterday marked the 10th running of Fernie's Riverfest. Fernie is currently experiencing epic white water rafting conditions, and yesterday’s 16 teams enjoyed every minute. The competition was good natured and light hearted. There were prizes for first and last, although, for all the work last place had to do, they probably just wanted a nice stew in the hot tub.
Their best option for relaxation would have to be Island Lake Lodge or the Powder Cowboy Dude Ranch. Both are located in Fernie B.C., in the pristine wilderness of the Canadian Rockies. Island Lake is the more upscale option of the two, offering a full service spa, exquisite fine dining, and luxury lodgings. Nothing is better after a day of hard outdoor exercise than a nice massage. Whether it be the white water rafting and mountain biking activities of summer, or the great backcountry catskiing in the winter, there is guaranteed to be a massage that will relax and relieve you of today’s aches and worries. Already feel relaxed? Then take a quick 30 minute massage to rejuvenate your energy levels. Or, if you've just come in from a long strenuous day, let their professional staff cure you of all those stretched and knotted muscles with an hour and a half massage. Once you've finished, take in the spectacular mountain views from the outdoor room as you gradually come back to reality.
If you want the creature comforts of modern living, without the high priced trappings of luxury, check out the Powder Cowboy Dude Ranch. One of the premier destinations for back country catskiing in the winter, there is plenty to see and do at the Ranch during the summer. Relax in the outdoor hot tubs as you breathe air so fresh you can only find it here, nestled in the beautiful Columbia Valley. An active dude ranch in the summer, you can't beat their cozy, western styled cabins as your home away from home anytime of the year.
