BASE Triple Comp
Posted - Tue, 09/07/2010 - 01:00
While we're still awaiting winter's arrival here in Fernie, British Columbia, New Zealand has plenty snow right now. That means that this weekend's BASE Triple Comp should be sweet. The event consists of three competitions for men and women skiers and snowboarders. There are many events crammed into each day. The first competition is the Banked Slalom event, testing rider's speed. Next up is the Expression Session, which tests rider's style on natural slopes. Then it all wraps up with the Big Air event, pushing athletes to throw down the sickest trick possible. Other than bragging rights, the winners will be divvying up a $2,000 prize pool of cash and goodies.
Once the snow starts falling in earnest here in Fernie, we'll have plenty of goodies of our own. In fact, a truly unique place to have your own Expression Session is on the peaks of the Lizard Range via Island Lake Catskiing. Island Lake's terrain covers 7,000 acres of jaw-dropping chutes, bowls, pillow lines and much more. Set on the northern end of the Lizard Range, it covers all of Mt. Baldy, the front and back slopes of Mt. Fernie, and much of the Cedar Valley. With such a massive terrain available there is plenty of world-class skiing to be done. And there really isn't a better place to do it. Island Lake is one of the oldest catskiing operators in the world. After years of experience they certainly know how to deliver. When combined with their great service and luxury accommodations, it's no wonder that visitors return year after year. A vacation at Island Lake is like no other catskiing vacation out there. Use their full service spa and gourmet dining, and you'll be relaxed and ready to hit the slopes day after day. So book now before their tours fill up for this season. If not, you'll miss out on breath-taking terrain that gets even the professionals salivating.
