The Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival

This Saturday and Sunday, August 21st and 22nd, the Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival will take place here in Fernie, British Columbia. It will include not only plenty of mountain biking, but hiking and sight-seeing as well. Saturday will feature an all-mountain downhill race incorporating singletrack with speed and endurance aspects as well. There will also be a Dirt Jump Jam and a kid's race. Sunday will host a short loop race, as well as a dual slalom race. The festival is but one of the many mountain bike events that take place in Fernie throughout the course of the summer. The TransRockies just finished. There are local rides and races all summer long, proving yet again why Fernie is both a summer and winter paradise.

Winter paradise is certainly one way many people describe Fernie in the December through April months. There is premium B.C. backcountry skiing to be had here, and some of the best of it is only accessible by snow cat. If you’re interested in a professional and quality experience, the snow cats of Island Lake and Powder Cowboy are the way to go. These are some of the best backcountry skiing operators in all of B.C., and both have monstrous terrain with sweet powder all season long.

Island Lake sits on 7,000 acres of picture perfect slopes, bowls, and gladded tree runs. Located in the Cedar Valley and covering the north end of the Lizard Range, all of Mount Baldy and most of Mt. Fernie, Island Lake has something to offer to everyone. Besides great snow catskiing, Island Lake also offers a luxurious and relaxing stay. Rid yourself of the muscle aches and pains of the day in their world-class spa, refuel your tanks with their delicious gourmet food and get a good night’s sleep in their sumptuous quarters.

Powder Cowboy offers a western themed twist on the vacation of a lifetime. Aside from their 6,000 acres of perfect, yet natural, gladded tree runs and endless ridgelines with drops in all directions, Powder Cowboy offers great lodging and dining as well. Make sure to celebrate your great day with family and friends in the Big Horn Saloon, serving up soothing spirits and even better food. Helicopter skiing
