July will soon be finished, and then comes more waiting as August, September, and November pass. Finally, with the arrival of December comes the beginning of ski season here in Fernie, British Columbia. Just because there is no snow here in Fernie, does not mean everyone is sitting around, or that there is nothing to do. Quite the contrary in fact. One of the more popular activities during this time is mountain biking. Fernie has some truly spectacular trails available for all ages and abilities. There are steep downhill trails as well as miles of cross-country tracks. If you want to increase the excitement, and add some competition to the mix, there are several races here in Fernie. The biggest one is the upcoming TransRockies Challenge, which starts in August. For those looking for something a little less strenuous, but still great fun, the Thursday Night Mountain Bike Race Series is currently happening every week. After today's race, there will be four more, spanning the entire month of August. Canada Catskiing
Even if mountain biking isn't really what you like to do, Fernie has plenty of activities during the summer and winter. In the summer there is plenty of hiking, fishing, and white water rafting among many others. Fernie also has plenty of museums and heritage sites to visit. Of course, the main thing people visit Fernie for, is the epic powder that drops here every year. The best way to experience the great snow is by heading into the backcountry on a snowcat. The best operators here in Fernie are Powder Cowboy and Island Lake. Both companies offer unique terrain, great service, and very professional guides. Best of all, both lodges are open during these summer months as well. Once you're convinced that this is the place for great backcountry skiing, and it is, make sure to book your vacation soon, as the tours from both operators are going fast. Canada Cat Skiing
