Fernie, British Columbia is located in the Canadian Rockies near the Lizard Range. Offering plenty of fluffy powder on tap every year, Fernie is a premier destination for snowcat skiing and snowboarding. One of the best operators in town is Powder Cowboy. Their tenure consists of over 6,000 acres spread across nine distinct zones. Any company can buy a snowcat and head into the backcountry, but not every company has access to Powder Cowboy's terrain. If you're considering a catskiing vacation this year, then you shouldn't look any further than what makes Powder Cowboy so special.
The Cabin Zone is the closest zone to the lodge. It is dotted with big and little cruiser peaks, as well as very spacious tree skiing. This is a great place to get a lay of the land, and see what else Powder Cowboy has to offer. If you head over to the backside of the Cabin Zone, you can start to add a little challenge to your first tracks. This area consists of steep chutes and bowls, as well as offering access to some of the other zones. The Lizard Zone offers some of the best tree skiing in the Rockies. Here you can also find the Lizard Ridge run, which takes you on a kilometer long tour of endless lines dropping north and south off the ridge. For the adventurous group, willing to do a bit of hiking, you can reach amazing, but otherwise inaccessible runs like 3G, which takes you on a three thousand foot long trip of endless powder.
Once you're done for the day, relax in Powder Cowboy's western style cozy cabins. Make sure to soak your weary muscles in the hot tubs, or saunter on over to the Big Horn Saloon. Many of Powder Cowboy's tours have already been booked for this season, so even though it's still the middle of July, now is the time to make your plans.
