Running Around Fernie
Here it is September, and with the snow not planning on visiting for the next few months, those of us that like the mountain outdoors must find other ways of amusing ourselves than skiing or snowboarding. To that end, Fernie's kilometers of hiking and biking trails offer a passable replacement. For the running enthusiast, there are quite a number of races to take part in as well. This weekend saw the Tears and Gears mountain duathalon take place. The race pitted relay teams of one runner and one biker against the clock and their fellow competitors. The run section lasted 12.5km, after which the bike section lasted 13.5km. Following several different trails and track, the race route actually provides an excellent tour of Fernie. This was an excellent warm up for the runners. At the beginning of October, Fernie will host its annual half-marathon.
