TransRockies Donates Money To Fernie
The TransRockies, one of the hardest mountain biking races in the world, takes place every year with a stage in Fernie, British Columbia. In fact, Fernie is the only location which has been part of the race since its inception. As a result of the many great trails here in Fernie, especially the singletrack, it is no wonder that the race makes a visit here every year. For that reason, the TransRockies made a donation of $1,500 to the Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club - the group that is singlehandedly responsible for Fernie becoming such a great place to go mountain biking. The Club is also thankful to Pat Gilmar, who matched the $1,500, bringing the total donated to $3,000. Pat Gilmar received the Mountain Culture Award in Fernie this year for his many years of service and dedication to the community. Even though this year's TransRockies stop has finished its slog over the Canadian Rockies to its current finish in Canmore, Alberta, racers will certainly be looking forward to next year's race and its stage in Fernie.
