TransRockies Mountain Bike Race Starts Soon!

The TransRockies Mountain Bike Race, dubbed the “toughest mountain bike race on earth,” will make its start on Sunday. The race starts here in Fernie, British Columbia, and will finish seven days later in Canmore, Alberta. The TransRockies has been held annually since 2002, when it became North America's first multi-day mountain bike race. This year is special for many reasons. First, there is a new route which will include much more single-track trail riding, instead of road riding. Second, this is the first year that the TransRockies are sanctioned by the UCI, the international governing body of cycling. This will bring not only a better level of competition, but also North America's biggest prize purse; that being $30,000 and 2,500 UCI points up for grabs. Cat Skiing Canada

Fernie, B.C. is a mountain biking paradise even during normal times, but if you want to experience some truly impressive track, now is the time to visit. In order to make the TransRockies the best, 15 volunteers from the Fernie Ski Touring and Trails Club put in 500+ hours to create new trails, and maintain others that will be used for the route. Even if you're not interested in competing, now is the time to come experience these epic trails. Cat Skiing BC

If you do come to visit Fernie, either for the biking or any of the other numerous activities available during the winter or summer, you'll need a place to stay. For a memorable stay, consider Island Lake Lodge and Powder Cowboy. The Island Lake Lodge offers luxurious accommodations, gourmet food, and a spa. It’s a place which makes for great relaxation after a day outdoors. The Powder Cowboy offers a western themed vacation, turning the lodge into a Dude Ranch during the summer months. Of course, the best time to visit Fernie is in the winter, when the backcountry skiing is world-class. Both lodges run snow cat skiing tours into some of the most amazing terrain in B.C. Whether you’re interested in the TransRockies, or just want to do some biking or heli skiing, book now with either lodge. You won't be disappointed.
