While we're still awaiting winter's arrival here in Fernie, British Columbia, New Zealand has plenty snow right now. That means that this weekend's BASE Triple Comp should be sweet. The event consists of three competitions for men and women skiers and snowboarders. There are many events crammed into each day. The first competition is the Banked Slalom event, testing rider's speed. Next up is the Expression Session, which tests rider's style on natural slopes. Then it all wraps up with the Big Air event, pushing athletes to throw down the sickest trick possible.

Even though the temperatures take us closer to that wonderful day when we can break out the skis and snowboards, it is still technically summer. That means that you can still get some great mountain biking done on all the trails here. Fernie is the perfect place for mountain biking, with plenty of tough singletrack and an abundance of interesting terrain. Fernie also plays host to a number of cool races like the Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival, and next week's Tears & Gears Mountain Duathlon. Of course, the most famous race here is the TransRockies.
